What is Boxing Day?

Good Morning Everyone!

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, Hanukkah or what ever it is you celebrate over this holiday period.

Today it is Boxing Day, which takes me back to the conversation I had with my (American) friend just little under a year a go where she had heard of boxing day but had never really knew what it was about. I explained that I think its something to do with either when many moons a go us Brits used to open our Christmas Presents, or something a long those lines, and how it was a bank holiday for us.

So I figured I would do some research to see if my theory was right. According to my research there are a number of possible origins for boxing day, the closest I could find to what I had told my friend was:

Boxing Day was traditionally a day off for servants and the day when they received a  ‘Christmas Box’ from the master. The servants would also go home on Boxing Day to give ‘Christmas Boxes’ to their families.
In recent years, Boxing Day, is more of an extension on Christmas Day really, spending time with family and friends, and eating Christmas Day leftovers, its has also recently been a big day in sports, where many sports teams will play in their respective field.

It is also the start of the Sale season in retail, so could also I guess be our version of the US's Black Friday....

Speaking of Sales, I'm off  (Window) Shopping!

See ya

Clothing Revolution

Following on from my recent post about minimalism, I decided to have a bit of a clothing revolution, which is still currently underway.

I had a stack of clothes which I had stored under my bed in one of those vacuum lock bags, you know the ones, where you shove them in the bag, attach your vacuum hose to the attached nozzle and it sucks the air and reduces the size by about 75%. Marvellous inventions really.

Anyway, the said clothes that I had under my bed, are from my slimmer days, and I have kept hold of them, just in case they fit again. I'm sure we all have something similar to this? Goal Pants maybe?

Anyway, I decided, even if I did manage to slim down into said clothes, I would probably be wanting to reward my efforts with some new clothes rather that old ones, so I gave them away to a friend. All but my favourite shirt.

I've also took the conscious decision to go through my current wardrobe and come up with a way to decide what is needed and what isn't. Many of the clothes I have are not really fit for every day purpose, they are either too office/dressy for everyday use, or clothes I would not be seen dead in at university. (YAY Comfy joggers) So I am planning on, getting rid of any clothes that I do not wear between now and February, because 3 months without wearing something, surely means I don't need it?

I'm also having a complete underwear, sock and bra overhaul, getting rid and starting again. There is a charity our there somewhere that collects Bra's for women in 3rd world countries, so I will more than likely send my over the shoulder bolder holders there (link to follow)

Twice in the last 2 weeks I have tried to quit smoking, and twice I have been turned away.

Last week, I went to the GP to ask for some champix, and he said no I need to go to the stop smoking service which is back [in the same building] in a week.

Fast forward a week.

I go to the stop smoking service as recommended by my doctor, and they said no also, as I don't live in their catchment area, this puzzled me as I live in my GP's catchment area but not theirs?

So I left in a bit of a huff for my wasted journey.

For a few weeks now I have noticed I am getting increasingly short of breath, I'm piling the weight on and altogether unhealthy.

This coupled with a dream I had about my mother that scared the hell out of me, has made me want quit smoking.

The only thing is I don't think I will be able to just quit?

I have been looking at Vape's, but have tried and failed that in the past, but have been told by a vaping friend of mind at University that its possibly because the Vape was not strong enough for me, and that I should try again with a stronger battery.

Then on the otherhand, I also know that there are studies underway about the effects of vaping, and how you can get something called "popcorn lung" from them.

I'm not normally one for believing everything I read or see in the media, but, this time I do think that there is something there.

Whats your best quit tips?
